Selected work

Evidence over adjectives.

Research, aircraft design and testing work that shows how I frame problems, choose tools and move engineering decisions forward.

Additional work

Further research, analysis and testing across aircraft, propulsion and control systems.

Research · CFD

Hybrid-aircraft propeller optimisation

Undergraduate research investigating propeller performance and optimisation for hybrid-aircraft applications using computational fluid dynamics.

  • Built and evaluated numerical models in ANSYS to compare propeller configurations.
  • Interpreted aerodynamic performance rather than treating simulation as a black box.
  • Communicated methods and findings through technical research outputs.

Aerodynamics · UAV

Fixed-wing UAV development

Aerodynamics lead work spanning airfoil selection, flow-separation analysis and configuration development for a fixed-wing UAV.

  • Used low- and high-fidelity tools to compare concepts before committing to geometry.
  • Studied separation behaviour and translated results into practical design decisions.
  • Worked across aerodynamic analysis, CAD and wider team interfaces.

Experimental aerodynamics

Airfoil wind-tunnel testing

Hands-on aerodynamic testing completed during the Cambridge Engineering Programme, connecting measured forces with airfoil behaviour.

  • Set up and observed controlled wind-tunnel tests across operating conditions.
  • Compared performance trends and considered uncertainty in experimental results.
  • Built an early foundation in test discipline and evidence-led engineering.

Research communication

Flow, noise & engineering studies

A collection of technical studies covering tree aerodynamics, propeller-wing noise and multi-propeller optimisation.

  • Explored how geometry and operating conditions shape complex flow behaviour.
  • Synthesised literature, modelling choices and results into concise technical posters.
  • Practised explaining engineering work clearly to mixed technical audiences.

Propulsion · Virtual experience

GE Aerospace engineering study

A focused engineering exercise connecting engine architecture choices with performance, efficiency and mission-level consequences.

  • Investigated bypass ratio and compression ratio as core gas-turbine design parameters.
  • Translated technical analysis into a concise engineering memo for a decision-making audience.
  • Strengthened the link between propulsion theory, trade-offs and clear communication.

PD controller & notch-filter design

EMS507 coursework using MATLAB to model a rigid and flexible positioning mechanism, tune a PD controller against transient-response requirements and suppress structural resonance with a notch filter.

  • Derived and implemented closed-loop transfer-function models from equations of motion and Laplace-domain relationships for rigid and flexible plant configurations.
  • Tuned proportional and derivative gains using 10-90% rise time, percentage overshoot and 2% settling time as design criteria.
  • Used step and Bode responses to identify resonance, calculate notch-filter parameters and compare performance before and after filtering.

Engineering method

From requirement to decision.

The tools change with the problem. The discipline stays the same: make assumptions visible, test the evidence and leave the design with a clearer next action.

01

Frame the problem

Define the mission, constraints, assumptions and success criteria before choosing a tool.

Output · A reviewable requirement set
02

Build the right model

Match fidelity to the decision, then make geometry, boundary conditions and checks explicit.

Output · A defensible analysis model
03

Challenge the evidence

Compare trends, test sensitivity and account for uncertainty instead of trusting a single result.

Output · Evidence with known limits
04

Move the design forward

Translate the result into a trade-off, recommendation and clear next test, build or review action.

Output · A decision the team can use
